The bank holiday weekend in Castlebar is synonymous with the West of Ireland Women’s mini marathon (10K) event. This year 4 staff members and 83 students took on the challenge.
The event which is hosted by Mayo Sports Partnership also includes a competition, aimed at getting as many teenage girls involved as possible. The competition is called ‘It’s for Girls’ and the award of a trophy and a €1000 voucher for Achill Adventure centre is presented to the school with the greatest percentage of its school population involved in the 10K. St. Joseph’s claimed the title for the second year in a row and Ms Caroline McGrath accepted the trophy on behalf of the St. Joseph’s students.
On the Friday before the mini marathon the school held a non-uniform day and all proceeds from the day were donated to Rock Rose House – a local charity who provides support to those who have cancer.
