Ceist Student of the year Award 2017

St. Joseph’s Castlebar celebrated student participation and achievement with awards ceremony. The staff and students of St. Joseph’s Secondary School Castlebar, together with invited guests, enjoyed an afternoon of celebration in An Sportlann recently.


Talented fifth year students were the masters of ceremonies for the event and the audience was entertained by the school’s junior and senior choirs, gospel choir and traditional group.  Awards were presented in a number of different categories:  Community and Leadership, Arts & Culture, Academic, Sports and Attendance.

Students who were members of the student council, green schools committee, peer4peer programme, Cycle against Suicide Ambassador School Programme were presented with awards.  Students who took part in Junk Kouture, Credit Union Art Competitions, mental health photography competitions, Youth Connect video competitions and the Young Social Innovators programme also received awards.  The coveted Sport Star of the Year awards, presented by Ms. Sinead Shaw from bank of Ireland,  were presented to Saoirse Mac Cabe and  Evanna Lyons at senior level and Isobel Hussey at Junior Level.  Many students received awards for attendance but Claire Murphy, 6th year, was presented with a special award.  In all her years in St. Joseph’s Claire has never missed a day! 
St. Joseph’s is under the trusteeship of CEIST and 6th year student Rebekah Ryan was presented with the CEIST Student of the Year perpetual trophy.  Leaving Cert student Ciara Murphy received the Leaving Cert Student of the Year gold award with Erica McMorrow receiving the silver award.  Awards were presented to a number of students from 1st year to 6th year for their dedication to their studies.
 
Mrs. Mac Cabe wrapped up the proceedings with an address to the students.  She congratulated all the students who received awards and commented on the vibrant school community that St. Joseph’s is. ​

    St. Joseph's is an all girls voluntary Catholic Secondary School, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1918. It is situated in the center of Castlebar and is built on the historical grounds of the Lord Lucan estate.

    St. Joseph's is under the trusteeship of  Ceist and has over 500 students attending at present. We aim to provide a holistic Christian Education in co-operation with teachers, students, parents, management and the community.
