Welcome to our website

St. Joseph's is an all girls voluntary Catholic Secondary School, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1918. It is situated in the center of Castlebar and is built on the historical grounds of the Lord Lucan estate.

St. Joseph's is under the trusteeship of  Ceist and has over 500 students attending at present. We aim to provide a holistic Christian Education in co-operation with teachers, students, parents, management and the community.

News and up and coming events : 

Irish Life All- Irelands took place on 10th March- Our intermediate team placed 6th overall with Maeve Gallagher winning out the race. ​
  • Intermediate team consisted of Maeve Gallagher, Brainna Mc Ghee (TY), Sarah Conlon and Katie Gibbons (3rd year)

  • Congrats to all who took part in this years Junk Kouture 18 Click Here to see our Video and our blog. 
 
  • Connacht Cross country stages took place Thur 15th March. 
          Minor category- Aibhe Mc Bride (1st year) placed 7th overall.
          Junior category -Ava Flynn (1st year) placed 2nd overall and Ella Deely (2nd year) placed             8th overall.
Intermediate category- Maeve Gallagher placed 1st.   
  • Congrats to Bella Quinn, 5th Year, who has been shortlisted to appear in Mental Health Ireland’s Art & Photography National Exhibition.​
 
  • We are so proud TY student Amy McLoughlin who was highly commended in Science Olympiad in DCU recently. She was invited to attend on the basis of her Maths & Science results in Junior Cert 2017.  
 
  • Congrats to Sarah, Anna and Ava on their success in the credit union art competition.  Sarah Bohan 5th year 2nd in 14-17 age category, Anna Forde 5th year 1st in 14-17 age category , Ava Flynn 1st Year 2nd in 11-13 age category, Anna goes forward to the Chapter Level of the art competition. You all did the school proud.

  • An Internet Safety night & Cyber Bullying workshop was held in school, Jeremy Padgen of Lurtel/school websites (www.schoolswebsites.ie) gave presentations to 2nd , 3rd , Transition Year, 5th and 6th year students on Internet Safety and Cyber Bullying in the school. 
 
  • Jeremy touched on topics as: Social media issues and challenges, cyber
    bullying, dealing with inappropriate content and other related areas. The
    feedback from both students and parents was very positive. Jeremy and Declan
    Moran have published a useful guide for parents called, ‘Internet Safety Guide
    for Parents’ and is available from Amazon for €20.
